Assam girl students who have obtained first division under the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council or AHSEC in their Class 12 board exams will receive free scooty. Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Tuesday that under the ‘Pragyan Bharti’ program, more than 22,000 will get free scooty. The government has agreed to reserve 25 per cent seats for state board students in government schools.
The budget had been set at Rs 50,000 to 55,000 for each scooty. Girl students who want electric scooty will be required to apply at sebaonline.org, Mr Sarma said.
The vehicle distribution will be finished by 15 October 2020 and the beneficiaries won’t be able to sell their scooty before three years, Mr Sarma added.
The minister also said that government colleges’ seat capacity would be expanded by at least 25 per cent, which would be reserved for state board candidates.
Assam students pursuing admission to higher education institutions have been impacted because of the alternate assessment or projected result formula introduced by the Central Board of Secondary Education, or CBSE.
Unlike CBSE, the state education boards of Assam were able to complete the final year exams as per schedules and declared results in the conventional method.
