The Covid-19 outbreak has shifted the nation’s educational sector landscape radically. Enhanced accessibility and innovations not only allowed ed-tech firms to emerge with out-of-the-box learning approaches but also inspired teachers and parents to be open to new ways of educating their children.
For Flinto Learning Solutions based in Chennai, founded in 2013 by Arunprasad Durairaj, Vijay Babu Gandhi and Shreenidhi Srirangam, thinking-out-of-the-box is more than just a business cliché. This start-up in early childhood education began with ‘Flinto-Box‘-an interactive membership-box that focuses on activity-based learning for children aged 2-12 years.
Recognizing a big potential for learning kits on the membership model, the company launched ‘Flinto-Class’ in 2017. Named ‘pre-school in a box,’ Flinto-Class is a robust nursery, pre-KG, LKG and UKG educational tool. It provides an early childhood program focused on research, regular lesson plans, prepackaged resources for pre-school instructors.
In eight countries like India, Malaysia, Laos, Singapore, Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait and Indonesia, Flinto Learning Solutions has entered more than 700 pre-schools.
The epidemic-led shutdown brought down shutters across the world at educational institutions leaving Flinto-Class in a lurch. But, in adversity, the company recognized a chance.
What is Flinto Learning Solutions’ Flinto-Class?
The organization launched ‘Flinto-Class@HOME’ at the height of the lockdown. It is a blended pre-school learning environment intended to offer high-quality pre-school training at the doorstep. Flinto-Class@HOME, a monthly service, arrives with an easy-to-use preschool package and pre-recorded educational sessions for children aged from 1.5 – 5.5 years.
“Since pre-schools are now closed, we’ve taken a direct-to-home system where parents subscribe directly to Flinto-Class@HOME and practically turn their living room into a school so their children don’t miss out on the early educational experience,” said Arunprasad Durairaj, CEO of Flinto Learning Solutions.
Launched during the national lockdown, Flinto Class @ HOME has since acquired more than 3,000 users and comes with a three and nine months package.
“The demand for Flinto-Class@HOME has been significant because, with each passing moment, family understand that this year it will not be possible to take their kids to schools,” Durairaj said, adding, “There’s also a digital overload for children and the contact with physical stuff is sharply declining.”
Flinto Learning Solutions raised a $7.2 million (approximately 50 crores) Pre-Series B investment led by Lightbox Ventures in the first week of July to finance its accelerated early learning space development and extend its recently introduced pre-school product.
“If the COVID lasts for the rest of this year, then we find ourselves improving and investing in Flinto-Class@HOME. Now we still plan to bring more options and products to the homes.”, Durairaj said.
Not only in India, but Flinto Learning Solutions also aims to introduce the Flinto-Class@HOME service in the foreign industry, while schools in several countries remain closed due to the current disease outbreak.
